Category Manager Electrical, Lighting, Home & Living

Role Summary

As Category Manager you are responsible for managing and overseeing the category Electrical, Lighting, Home & Living within Teal Goal Limited. This includes market analysis, strategy development of the category, communicate and collaborate with suppliers and customers to ensure the category’s success. You will report to the Managing Director and lead a small team. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the Category Electrical, Lighting, Home & Living, which includes the following products: lighting, electrical installation, cable & accessories, batteries & torches, fans, aircons & heaters, decorative products (seasonal incl. Christmas), home & living. 
  • In addition, you will lead the Product Management team of the category “Tools & Hardware”.
  • Category Strategy: Develop and implement a comprehensive strategy for the category that aligns with overall company goals.
  • Complete responsibility of the value chain, end to end from production to point of sale.
  • Product Assortment: Determine & analyze the variety and quantity of products within the category to meet customer demand. Set the priorities. 
  • Market Trends: Analyze market trends in Asia and Europe and sales data to identify opportunities for category growth.
  • Responsible for competitor analysis and market observation in Europe.
  • Customer Relations: Build and maintain positive relationships with BAUHAUS purchasing teams, understand their needs, and offer customized solutions.
  • Supplier Relations: Establish and maintain relationships with suppliers, negotiate contracts, and ensure a steady supply of products.
  • Pricing: Find competitive pricing for products in the category, considering factors like cost, market trends, and profitability.
  • Performance Analysis: Monitor and analyze category performance, including sales and customer feedback, and adjust strategies as necessary.
  • Responsible for annual revenue targets in the assigned product range.
  • Responsible for margin goals, including annual supplier negotiations, as well as for reorders (number of orders, price negotiations) to achieve defined goals.
  • Also manages Product Management Tools & Hardware.

Skills and Qualifications

Education & experience

  • A higher education (Master or Bachelor degree or comparable) in a relevant field such as Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, or Marketing is preferred. 
  • Minimum 7 years of experience in category management, sourcing, or procurement.
  • Industry-specific experience in DIY products, especially related to the European market, is highly valuable. 
  • Deep expertise in the following product groups required: lighting, electrical installation, cable & accessories, batteries & torches, fans, aircons & heaters, decorative products.

General skills

  • Leadership skills: Able to lead and motivate a cross-functional team to deliver a high-quality product on time and within budget. Able to delegate tasks, resolve conflicts, foster collaboration, and inspire innovation. 
  • Team player with excellent communication & presentation skills in English (fluent, must) and German (preferable). Effective communication with internal stakeholders and external suppliers.
  • Good knowledge of the local production & purchasing markets, familiar with EU test standards & product compliance, good knowledge of factory operations, as well of knowledge about the due diligence acts in Europe (like e.g. Supply Chain Act).
  • A good understanding of the market and customer needs and preferences, along with analytical skills. Ability to analyze market trends, pricing, and supplier performance. Using data to drive sourcing decisions.
  • Strategic Thinking: Developing and executing sourcing strategies aligned with business goals. 
  • Supplier Relationship Management: Building and maintaining strong relationships with suppliers. Identifying and mitigating risks in the supply chain.
  • Excellent negotiation skills & cost management: Proficiency in negotiating contracts, terms, and pricing with suppliers. Ensuring cost competitiveness while maintaining quality. 
  • Project Management skills: Ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize effectively and handling challenges and tight deadlines.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Working closely with other departments (e.g., marketing, logistics). Communicate location-independently with a team in multiple countries and locations. 
  • Excellent IT & computer skills (Windows or macOS): Work in a modern work environment and able to learn new technologies and adapt to changing requirements.
