Product Manager Tools & Hardware

Role Summary

As Product Manager you are responsible managing and overseeing the category Tools & Hardware within Teal Goal Limited. This includes market research, product selection and development, supplier negotiations and relationship as well as data management, price setting as well as packaging and sustainability related topics. You will report to the Category Manager and lead one Junior Product Manager. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the Category Tools & Hardware, which includes the following products: hardware (like nails, screws, fittings, shelves, ladders, storage), nautic products, hand tools, power tools, machine accessories, car & bike accessories
  • Market Research: Understand market trends and customer preferences in his/her product assortment. 
  • Product Selection & Developement: Choose new products, innovations and prepares the presentation to the customers. Works with country hubs on innovations, and presentation of the offers in a structured way to the countries and to the European customers.
  • Supplier Negotiation & Relationship: Negotiate terms of purchase, delivery, and payment with suppliers. Identifying and reducing risks in the supply chain.
  • Price Setting: Help to find competitive pricing for products in the category, considering factors like cost, market trends, and profitability. 
  • Packaging and Sustainability: Responsible for optimizing packaging, shipping volume, and related measures to market the products sustainably in collaboration with Sustainability Team.
  • Product Assortment & Data Management: In charge of ensuring that product, assortment, and supplier data is current and accurately entered into IT systems, and that all requests and quotes are accessible in online systems.
  • In charge of meeting sales and margin goals for the specified product range.

Skills and Qualifications

Education & experience

  • A higher education (Master or Bachelor degree or comparable) in a relevant field such as Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, or Marketing is preferred. 
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in product management, sourcing, or procurement.
  • Industry-specific experience in DIY products, especially related to the European market, is highly valuable. 
  • Deep expertise in the following product groups required: hardware (like nails, screws, fittings, shelves, ladders, storage), nautic products, hand tools, power tools, machine accessories, car & bike accessories.
  • Experience in product development in cooperation with factories.

General skills

  • Leadership skills: Able to lead and motivate a cross-functional team to deliver a high-quality product on time and within budget. Able to delegate tasks, resolve conflicts, foster collaboration, and inspire innovation. 
  • Team player with excellent communication & presentation skills in English (fluent, must) and also the Chinese (preferable). Effective communication with internal stakeholders and external suppliers. 
  • Good knowledge of the local production & purchasing markets, familiar with EU test standards & product compliance, knowledge of factory operations.
  • Able to develop new products and innovations together with the factory.
  • A good understanding of the market and customer needs and preferences, along with analytical skills. Must be able to conduct market research, analyze data, and assess the impact and value of your product. Using data to drive sourcing decisions.
  • Thorough knowledge of the technology and tools used to create and deliver the products requested in the target market. 
  • Creativity skills: Able to create new and creative ideas for the assigned product range. Ability to think outside the box, experiment with different solutions, and make changes based on feedback. 
  • Project Management skills: Ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize effectively and handling challenges and tight deadlines.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Working closely with other departments (e.g., marketing, logistics). Communicate location-independently with a team in multiple countries and locations. 
  • Excellent IT & computer skills (Windows or macOS): Work in a modern work environment and able to learn new technologies and adapt to changing requirements.
